The meeting commenced at 7:40 p.m., President Tom Tani presiding.

In attendance: T. Tani, L. Maccubbin, R. Dial, S. Harty, H. Griffiths, E. Wolf, C. DeVerna, T.A. Fitzpatrick, G. Gavin, P. Bethe, K. Smith, J. Dibble, J. Sweeney,  M. Edye

1.   RRSNY Annual Report

·     Accomplishments: Website a big success, online referee comment form, stepped up evaluation efforts, referee payment plan working

·     Issues: No fall clinics (largely due to WTC tragedy); a couple of instances with referee match-handling issues; some clubs did not pay referee expenses

·     2002 Action Items: Monthly meetings resume January 2002 (first Monday of month, Jan.-June and Aug.-Nov., at Chrysler Bldg. in Manhattan); website link to clubs in Met NY LAU; improve communication with clubs; L I and II clinics (At Xavier H.S. in Manhattan – L I  and TJ Jan 27th and L II tent. Feb. 10th); Referee dues (for clubs) still $150 and 2 clubs owe from 2001; club schedules due Feb. 1st, refs and match secretaries should confirm certain information (time, location, directions, get cell phone numbers, club colors) and expenses should be paid by clubs before match; more club referees needed.

2.   Officer Roles: Pres. and VP’s elected by membership; Chairmen appointed by Pres./VP’s.  Elections this year by e-mail.  Incumbent slate overwhelmingly re-elected.

·     President (Tom Tani): Coord. activities of other ofcrs.; represent RRSNY at Met NY , USA events; Treasurer; Coordinate ref assignments; NASO reg.

·     VP-Recruiting (Lex Maccubbin): Coord. social activities; recruiting; communications with new members.

·     VP-Communications (Rob Dial): Meeting minutes; quartermaster (kit); CIPP reg

·     Evaluator Chairman (Jem McDowall): Coord. evaluator scheds.; compile evaluator feedback; submit names for grade promotion; schedule exchanges (with Exchange Chmn.).  Active evaluators incl. J. McDowall, T. Tani, P. Simpson, T.A. Fitzpatrick, G. Weil.  Eligible evaluators include C. Maresca, all C1’s for C2 and below.

·     Exchange Chairman (Grace Gavin): Coord. sched. between RRSNY and LAU’s; sched. exchanges (with Evaluator Chmn.); work with VP-Recruiting on social activities.

·     Website Chairman (Chris Fix): Handle updates with Iggy; Coord. necessary updates; work on links with clubs

·     USARRA Referee Trainers (Tom Tani, T.A. Fitzpatrick): Level I and II and Touch Judge courses.

3.       Fee Donation

Single gift or divide it?  General charity or rugby-related?  Referee development or general rugby?  Amount is $6K-$7K.

4.   CIPP

Rob Dial to distribute forms.  Members to fax back to him (201-612-6658).

5.   Social Event

Lex Maccubbin and Grace Gavin to coordinate.  Poss. Sat. or Sun. afternoon with 5-nations game at bar.  Poss. dinner this winter.

6.   Discussions

·     What if a player is singled out for revenge?  Warn team not to retaliate, take control of situation, be proactive.

·     Move college games to Saturday?  Not enough referees unless other matches are moved to Sunday (i.e. rotation plan for D2 and D3 clubs).  Most refs do not want to do multiple games.  Legal issues if clubs play at club locations (including alcohol issues).  Most club refs do not want to forego playing themselves to ref college games and hence favor Sundays.
