1.
Website – Tom and Chris Fix expressed
satisfaction. Chris
said now that the website is running well, we can start
working on enhancements.
One suggestion was establishing a “LINKS”
page, so that we can hook up to the Met Union Club
Websites. This
will be handy in getting directions, etc.
2.
League Rumors -
Tom had been getting a lot of emails from clubs
asking what the league structure would be.
Tom has been responding that the league structure
is not in the RRSNY province.
Did review what rumors he had heard (some clubs
folding, some forced movement into Division 1, etc.).
3.
Match Report Sheet – Tom also distributed an
Excel spreadsheet listing all the game reports that had
been submitted. Will
be sending this to the Met Union Board as a record of
games officiated so that the refs who submitted reports
can be paid. Will
distribute by email to the rest of the refs by the end
of the week.
4.
New York Sevens – A first email has gone out.
A follow up will go out by the end of the week.
5.
Referee Dinner – FEBRUARY 2, 2001
- Lex Maccubbin has made arrangements for our
next referee dinner.
It will be held on Friday, February 2, 2001 at
the MEDITERRANEAN MANOR in Newark.
If we get 40 people or more we will get our own
room. Lex
will be sending out info separately.
Chris Fix will work with Lex to get a
presentation out on the website.
6.
Law Interpretation and Ref/Club Communications
– This item took up the bulk of the meeting.
Two clubs attended for the first time this year.
Both had issues regarding the consistency of law
application. Old
Blue had issues in particular with offsides and
lineout barging.
Issues were raised as to whether all referees
were on the same page.
Tom pointed out that the new law documentation as
well as the article on game management that was
distributed at the Conference on the Game in Atlanta had
been sent to ALL clubs and referees.
It had also been posted on the website.
Tom did say that the Society may not have been as
proactive as it might have been to make sure its members
had READ the documentation.
This will be addressed in the coming year.
Tom also pointed out that he was confident very
few of the clubs had also read the documentation.
This is something he will need to pursue with the
Met Union next year.
Bayonne RFC raised a question on sending in feedback on
the referees and whether feedback is responded to.
Tom mentioned that the Game Report Form used by
the Referees to report scores, was also available to the
clubs to be used for feedback.
Tom said he received only a very few emails from
clubs. Those
that were received were responded to.
Tom said that Bayonne’s emails to him were
answered the same day so he did not understand why this
issue was being raised.
It was agreed that the Referees could do the following:
*) Be more consistent in applying the laws across the
board.
*) Be more proactive in making sure our refs know what
the guidelines are.
*) Make an effort to talk to with the players and
coaches.
It was also agreed the Clubs could do the following:
*) Make an effort to talk to with the referee prior to
the match to discuss any law questions.
*) Send emails regarding any referee issues.
COMMUNICATE!!
*) Address any issues with referees in a civil manner.
It was agreed that we should have more meetings like
this between the clubs and the referees.
Tom agreed to make club/referee issues the focus
of at least three monthly meetings in 2001.
One meeting each prior to the start of the Spring
and Fall season, and another in the summer.
Tom urged both clubs to get the word out.
